What are Dentures?
Dentures are removable prosthetic teeth that can be used to replace a line of missing teeth. They are designed to look like natural teeth and the surrounding tissues, restoring the smile’s appearance as well as the teeth’s functionality. Depending on how many teeth are being replaced, complete or partial can be made. Getting new dentures
Patients will take some time to adapt to dentures and Dr. Xavier, through multiple consultations and visits, works with the patients to provide them a complete understanding and what to expect during/after the procedure. The process from start to finish usually is completed in 3 – 4 visits. Dr. Xavier and team makes sure to provide the patient ample time to understand about dentures and adjust.
Before the impression can be taken for dental implants, existing teeth affected by decay and gum disease needs to be removed. Then impressions are taken for the immediate denture and once the immediate dentures are made, they are placed. This step can be done for partial and full. Immediate dentures need relining as healing progresses. Usually 6 – 8 weeks are required for complete healing. New impression is taken after healing is complete and this new impression is used for the permanent denture
How to take care of your dentures?
To properly care for your dentures, you need to take them out every night. Dentures need to be cleaned regularly with brush and soap or denture cleansing products. Dentures need to put in a container with water overnight. You can also use different denture soaking solutions that are available for overnight soaking.
